SCOTCHCOULTHARD FARM
Scotchcoulthard Farm is just four miles north of Hadrian’s Wall in one of the most remote areas of the Northumberland National Park. Sited on the edge of Wark Forest which leads into Kielder Forest, this small 180 acre farm is surrounded by magnificent views over the moors.
The area is full of wildlife, with lucky visitors able to spot red squirrels, hedgehogs, woodpeckers, deer and many others. Traditional hay meadows run down either side of the farm drive. These are not cut until late July, allowing many wild flowers and ground nesting birds to flourish. The Northumberland National Park has been classified as a Dark Sky Park as there is no light pollution, so on a clear night the stargazing is fantastic, and often follows a breath taking sunset.

It’s a huge privilege to be able to camp surrounded by ancient oaks adjacent to the River Till and even take an early morning dip in its peaty waters. We were expecting rain and so the cover provided by the trees was very welcome. We took a seldom used path to the Tweed and gazed over to Scotland with its bothies from the English side with its fishermens’ huts and watched swallows dive bomb the river and the brief blue flash of a kingfisher. The site is a popular one for fishermen even though apparently the fishing not as good as it was. A very enjoyable stay.
